Estimate the quantities of barley expected in each country
Assessing meteorological impacts to anticipate expectations
The primary role of Malteries Soufflet’s agronomy department is to supply barley to all our production sites, to meet our customers’ expectations in terms of quantity and quality.
Constraints that have strong repercussions on crops
Agriculture is a living discipline which, by definition, means it cannot be fully controlled. Since the dawn of time, it has been dependent on the country’s climatic conditions, which can have a significant impact on the volume of raw materials available on the market. Assessing the impact of weather conditions on farmers’ yields therefore helps us better determine the volume of barley that will subsequently be available to serve our malting plants. This data collection and analysis lets us anticipate and optimise the supply of our production sites.
Digitised data
We proceed with numerous sampling and counting methods to record the conditions in each region and country. This work also involves regular visits to the fields and discussions with our farming partners. We are now developing a smartphone application for our agronomists, to digitise this data collection process. It will be rolled out by 2024 and will further enhance the efficiency of supply to our plants.
